Rhamphorhynchus, a Jurassic pterosaur, boasted a remarkable wing structure with a long, stiffened tail ending in a diamond-shaped vane. Its jaws, filled with sharp teeth, suggest a diet of fish. This iconic flying reptile offers valuable insights into the evolution and diversity of ancient aerial vertebrates.
This piece is a hand painted resin Rhamphorhynchus longicaudus. It was sculpted with the assistance of palaeontologist, pterosaur expert and artist Natalia Jagielska. Thanks also to Dr. Dave Hone for correcting the species name (formerly longicaudus).
Digitally sculpted in ZBrush and 3D printed, it employs magnets to link the mandible to the skull.
